Many of our customers are registered to the ISO 9001 Quality management system standard. You may or may not have heard that ISO 9001 – Quality management system – requirements have now been revised. We have been following the process for well over two years now and the revision has just been released.
Organizations will still be able to initially register to ISO 9001:2008 through February 2017. After that time, all registrations will have to be conducted against the 2015 version of the standard. Three years from the publishing of ISO 9001:2015, any existing accredited certifications issued to ISO 9001:2008 shall no longer be valid. There will be a three (3) year transition period in which to adapt to the new standard and get re-registered.
This will be a major revision and significant changes have been made in order to harmonize it with other standards so organizations will find it easier to register to multiple standards. Little, if any, conflicting requirements will result as the adoption of Annex SL which defines the common requirements and structure for many of the common standards such as ISO 14001.
